The Eye of Nerzrim Bogh

Legends and Stories of the Frozen North.

In an age long past, the world was populated by towering gods. Immortals who wielded unheard of power and strode across the land, traveling from one kingdom to the next in moments.
Power hungry and prone to violence, the ancient gods fought many wars among themselves. Some fought for fame, others, prestige and power. But for all of their abilities, few thought or even cared about the mortals crushed under their feet, or turned to ash by their magics.
But those who did care were loved and worshipped by their mortals. Once such god was Nerzrim Bogh. The god was invisible, even to other gods, but he was powerful and benevolent. As a pacifist, Bogh was able to avoid most of the conflicts of his peers, spending his time caring for the mortals he watched over. He taught his followers to follow a path of peace, and they found themselves prosperous.
The other gods often came to entreat Bogh to join their side in the different conflicts, but he consistently refused. Finally however, a powerful god insisted Bogh ally with him against several other gods. First entreating, then demanding, and finally threatening Bogh unless he helped, Bogh refused. Unfortunately, the angry god cursed Nerzrim Bogh. The curse made him visible to the other gods, though only for a short time. When the curse eventually faded, it left only a single eye visible. However, with the curse concentrated in that single eye, the gaze of Bogh could kill any mortal it fell upon. Many of his followers scattered, fearful for their lives. With the other gods now stalking Nerzrim and able to find him because of his cursed eye, he had no choice but to fight in many brutal and exhausting wars. Myth says that Nerzrim was one of the last of the Old Gods to fall in their wars, but instead of death, he fell into a deep, death-like sleep.
There are some who still follow and worship Nerzrim Bogh, and they say a mountain has grown up around his body. Their doctrine says one day he will rise again, killing the enemies of his followers and protecting them once again from the brutal world they live in.
